Day 175: The Coromandel Area, New Zealand

The Coromandel area in New Zealand is lovely.  We could have spent a week there and still not run out of things to explore!  Below are a few of our favorite not to miss areas. First off, the windy, twisty long way up to the Coromandel (route 25 on the west side of the Peninsula).  The views are just stunning, if not a bit scary.  You don’t have to use this route to arrive into the Coromandel area, as there is a much easier, more direct route, but the views are worth… Read More

When the Storm Sweeps In

We spent several hours exploring every nook and cranny of this spectacular stretch of coastline in Puerta Aventuras.   Tide pools and craggy coral rock formations were mesmerizing and I could hardly put my camera down. The kids were equally absorbed in their explorations, diving into the natural pool, navigating the rocky coral, and discovering all sorts of new creatures.  We found this colorful crab bathing in a tide pool before scurrying away from us, looking for protection.  He was gracious enough to let me photograph him for a few moments, but… Read More

Day 77: Living on Coco Beach

In one day, we transition from our condo in Coco Beach to our condo in Playacar.  It is a bittersweet move, as we have loved being here.  The view alone through our picture windows has given us hours of joy!   The truth is, it has also felt like home, and for that, we are very thankful.  The electric bill, however, was beginning to kill our budget.  We are on the top floor of our condo, and exposed on three sides.  The upside?  Gorgeous sea views!  Seriously, they were spectacular!  This photo below doesn’t come… Read More

Snorkeling in Akumal

Recently we went to Akumal.  We waded into the ocean immediately. Of course we put our sun tan lotion on first, I must admit.  It’s very important though I must say, I don’t like waiting for the sun tan lotion to melt in before I can get in the water. Oh well. We saw many things there.  First of all we saw turtles!  Yes and they were amazing.  The way they weren’t scared and the way they look; it just amazes me.  I loved being with them because we were able to take… Read More

Night on the Beach

We live in a condo right by the beach, which has an incredible view of the Ocean from many of the windows.  It is not even a two-minute walk to it.  There is almost always a breeze, blowing around the many palm trees around our condo.  At night, I like to open the wood door and feel the cool breeze rush in through the screen door.   Night walks on the beach are one of my favorite things!  I love the chills up my spine that the wind brings.  If I close… Read More
