Overall On New Zealand

New Zealand is a wonderful, simply beautiful place to be.  It offers scenic drives, easy-difficult hikes, gorgeous mountains, hot and cold weather, lush hills, colorful flowers everywhere, cute, small towns, excellent fish’n chips, great Indian/Thai food, and more!  There are sooo many things to do and see that it is practically impossible to see all of it in one trip…even if it is three weeks!   During our time in New Zealand, we lived in a campervan.  We were able to see many things and we visited both islands.  There was a… Read More

Kathryn’s Experience in New Zealand

New Zealand is a beautiful place to be at. Oh, how to began. Well, I guess I’ll start with the most exciting things we did! Well, as you can imagine, we had to go and see Hobbiton.  I mean, we’re in New Zealand, and that’s one of the big reasons we came to New Zealand. How to began….. we got on the tour bus  and headed over the the lush green hills of Hobbiton, starting at one of the smaller hobbit holes. It was so interesting and fun. But what amazed me… Read More

Ryan Thomas on New Zealand

New Zealand, the place where hobbits, orcs and elves dwell. At least in the movies. In real life, well, at least you can still go on the middle earth tour (minus the elves, dwarves, and hobbits).  We figured the best way to get around New Zealand was a camper van, so that’s exactly what we did. Minus the nausea , the ride was great! Sleep whenever you want, wake up, look out your window, and enjoy the gorgeous scenery that is right in front of your face. Snowy mountains, rows upon rows… Read More

Day 189: North Island, New Zealand

We’re blown away by how beautiful New Zealand is and this post is just about the North Island!  There is so much to see and do here, it’s incredible.  I’ve put this short blog post together to just summarize a few of the beautiful things available to see and do on the North Island.  Hope you enjoy. First, just a few quick tips I gathered along the way: 1.  One of the best ways to explore New Zealand is with a Campervan.  Kea seems to be one of the best, as their… Read More

Day 173: Hobbiton New Zealand

J.R.R. Tolkien.  Author of some of our favorite books, now turned movies.  A favorite of all of ours, how could we not visit New Zealand, where the Hobbit and Lord of the Rings were filmed?  The scenery in the movies made the books come to life and we were captivated with the thought of visiting some of the same locations in which these movies were made.  Truth be told, we had never really considered New Zealand as a destination before viewing the movies. And then there was Hobbiton!  Should we or shouldn’t… Read More

Day 170: Campervan Living in NZ

So, after much research and talking to friends and new contacts, we decided to go the Campervan route in New Zealand.  With two adults, four kids, and so much to see and do in New Zealand, we thought it would be crazy to keep moving from hotel to hotel, unpacking, packing, and inevitably leaving something behind at each destination!  So…here’s a little bit of our experience.  Enjoy. With campervans, you can either pay to stay at a campsite (which often provides showers and restrooms, as well as electrical plug ins and dump… Read More

New Zealand Through Danny’s Eyes

Hot water beach On the second day of our journey in NZ we went to…Hot Water Beach!!!  As we walked to the beach from our camper van, we saw a very big black eel in a lake about 30 meters from the beach!  None of us got pictures I think because we hurried to the beach. When we got there, there were jacuzzis already dug up for us! The water under the sand was warm and hot.  The first jacuzzi we got in was a little too cold so me moved on… Read More
