Secrets the Vine, Cancun, Mexico

2016 Update:  We visited Secrets the Vine for our second time in August and this time we stayed 3 nights.  Here is a quick photo update on this beautiful resort.  This resort has remained almost exactly as we remember it, so there is no need for a detailed update…other than to share a few additional photos.

What a fantastic resort, especially for adults, singles, and quick weekend getaways for friends and family.  The Vine is in a fantastic location with easy bus or taxi access to the main shopping areas in the hotel zone.  Almost every room has beautiful views of the sea as well as the lagoon.  Even the most standard rooms are lovely.  The beach in Cancun is amazing and right in front of the resort, it is wide, soft, sandy, and intensely blue! If you enjoy great food, you will not be disappointed.

If you decide to visit the Vine, please stop back and let me know what you thought.

The Resort

The Dining:

2014:  Secrets the Vine is a lovely, adults-only, beachfront, all-inclusive resort situated right in the Cancun Hotel Zone. It is close enough to the nightlife in Cancun and is just a hop, skip, and a jump away via taxi or bus (which stops in front of the hotels and drives up and down all day).  One great thing about this all-inclusive resort? No wristbands!  As always, photos first and then the review.  Back to Mexican Resorts.

Size: Secrets the Vine offers 497 luxurious rooms, all with private balconies that offer beautiful views of both the Caribbean Sea and the Nichupte Lagoon. That said, I would not describe it as a large resort, as the building itself is a high rise. Everything is within easy walking distance, which makes negotiating the property really convenient.

Everywhere we explored, there was always a place to sit, whether in the lobbies (with their uniquely decorated furniture) or by the pools, and even on the beach! I loved that we did not have to fight to find a place for ourselves.  One of our favorite places to hang out was in the lobby area.  The furniture is fun and unique, and there is also a long fireplace, adding a ton of warmth and ambience to an already very neat resort.

Star Level: I would describe this resort as a 4 star resort.  I’ll give you one quick example of the service here.  I sat myself on the floor to plug in my computer, so I could charge it and continue working.  A staff member observed this and quickly walked over and asked me to follow him.  He brought me to a much more comfortable seat that had an outlet right next to it and then offered to get me something to drink while I was working.  Just wonderfully kind and accommodating, I was really touched that he went to the trouble.

Category: This resort is a lively, active resort with plenty of fun options. The service is efficient, professional, and friendly.  It’s a great choice for couples and groups.

Beach: The beach in Cancun is just beautiful.  It is long, wide, and sandy in many places and for those who love to take long walks, it is ideal.  The waves can be rough, but not too rough to swim.  Just be careful and always swim with a partner, and do pay attention to the warning flags.  If you see “Red”, then heed the warning.

Accommodations: The rooms at Secrets the Vine are contemporary and lovely. Even the most standard room is spacious (see photos above) and offers a large private balcony with gorgeous views.  Ask for a higher room, however, as the higher you go, the more stunning the view.

Activities: This resort is very active, with so much to do. During the day, you can do water aerobics, yoga, take a Cocktail class, dance lessons, or even learn Spanish.  You can also enjoy water polo, beach and pool volleyball, billiards, and ping pong.  For an additional charge you can also go deep sea fishing or diving.  You may also want to consider renting a car or arranging for a tour to local activities, parks, beaches, and ruins.

Night Life: At nighttime, this resort offers live music, dancing, theme parties, and a cocktail party.  If you want to get off property, you can head to Cancun’s hotel zone center, where you will find a ton of shopping, dining, restaurants, and bars.

Dining: The dining here is wonderful. There are so many choices, it’s hard to choose.   And better yet…no reservations required at any of the restaurants, nor wristbands that clash with your evening wear.  One thing we enjoyed doing was restaurant hopping, so we could sample a bit of each restaurant.  In one evening, we were able to sample Greek, Italian, Asian, and seafood.  Very fun!

This resort is one of the nicest we have ever visited.  If you’re into pools, beautiful beaches, socializing, gourmet food, and friendly service, it’s a great choice. Thank you, Secrets the Vine, for a wonderful visit.

  1. I enjoyed staying at Secrets The Vine about a year ago. Thought it was awesome. Too bad it shades the pool of the resort next door by about 12 noon. Wish they wouldn’t build high rise properties there.
