Kathryn’s Experience in New Zealand

New Zealand is a beautiful place to be at. Oh, how to began. Well, I guess I’ll start with the most exciting things we did! Well, as you can imagine, we had to go and see Hobbiton.  I mean, we’re in New Zealand, and that’s one of the big reasons we came to New Zealand. How to began….. we got on the tour bus  and headed over the the lush green hills of Hobbiton, starting at one of the smaller hobbit holes. It was so interesting and fun. But what amazed me… Read More

Ryan Thomas on New Zealand

New Zealand, the place where hobbits, orcs and elves dwell. At least in the movies. In real life, well, at least you can still go on the middle earth tour (minus the elves, dwarves, and hobbits).  We figured the best way to get around New Zealand was a camper van, so that’s exactly what we did. Minus the nausea , the ride was great! Sleep whenever you want, wake up, look out your window, and enjoy the gorgeous scenery that is right in front of your face. Snowy mountains, rows upon rows… Read More

Day 210: Taxis and the Mafia

Normally we arrange transfers for our clients, but on our RTW trip, we’ve tried to wing it as much as possible, because something as simple as trying to negotiate taxi fare can provide a great look into the life and heart of a culture. Well, we were not disappointed.  We landed at 9pm Indonesian time, but it was already midnight in Sydney.  Needless to say, we were all tired.  As soon as we entered the taxi area, we were bombarded by extremely aggressive drivers, trying to win our business.  One in particular was overwhelmingly persistent…. Day 210: A Turbulent Beginning to Bali, Indonesia

We arrived safely into Bali, Indonesia after a very long, somewhat turbulent flight.  The troubles began at the airport, where Ryan was first pulled aside for a special screening, and then they went through his bags thoroughly, getting rid of some of his prized items.  We were somewhat surprised, as I am usually the “suspicious” woman of interest, but this time it was his turn. After we finally cleared security, Ryan got himself a much needed hot cup of coffee and we settled in for a long wait, but apparently the airlines… Read More

Katie’s Tahiti Time Blog

When we left for Tahiti, I was so excited I was jumping up and down.  As we boarded the airplane, you could barely contain my excitement! When we landed, I couldn’t get my head around the thought that I was actually in Tahiti! The journey had begun. But, as you can imagine, things always go wrong in the Gainor family.  I bet you’re wondering, “What now?” Well, here’s your answer:  Between the time we landed and got a ride over to the ferry station (since we were going to stay in Moorea,… Read More

Day 199: Melbourne, Australia, and Les Miserables

Melbourne is truly a fascinating city.  Had there not been so many other fantastic locations to explore in Australia, we would have loved to extend our stay here and explore not only the city itself but many of the outlying areas. We were surprised by how much we loved Melbourne.  It’s a really friendly city with so much to see and do.  There are restaurants and shops everywhere, as well as a lot of museums and cultural venues, and a few beautiful historical sites as well.  We loved exploring the different cathedrals… Read More
