Cozumel: Day 3

We woke up and ate at the all-inclusive breakfast again.  The rest of the morning was lazy and relaxing, hanging out in our bedrooms, watching T.V.  In the afternoon, we took a personal tour from 1-5.  We hired a taxi driver to take us around Cozumel to get a better feel for it.  It was a lot of fun because what we did was drive to one place, hop out, snorkel; get back in the car, drive some more, hop out, and snorkel again.  It was rather active, so by the time… Read More

Cozumel: Day 2

Woke up with a fresh start today!  Ready for a hearty, all-inclusive breakfast, we headed downstairs.  The hotel had a really good all-inclusive breakfast, too.  There was the regular stuff like cereal, bread, yogurt, fruit, etc…, but there was also a station where a woman cooked anything from pancakes, to omelettes, to special Mexican breakfasts.  They also had some really good pastries (I indulged in a few chocolate croissants:)! After stuffing ourselves, we headed outside to go shopping; Cozumel is known for it’s fun shopping streets.  It was a very hot day, so when my… Read More

Day 77: Living on Coco Beach

In one day, we transition from our condo in Coco Beach to our condo in Playacar.  It is a bittersweet move, as we have loved being here.  The view alone through our picture windows has given us hours of joy!   The truth is, it has also felt like home, and for that, we are very thankful.  The electric bill, however, was beginning to kill our budget.  We are on the top floor of our condo, and exposed on three sides.  The upside?  Gorgeous sea views!  Seriously, they were spectacular!  This photo below doesn’t come… Read More

Cozumel: Day 1

Over the weekend, my family and I went to Cozumel.  We got a day pass on Friday to go to the all-inclusive resort Sunscape, and eat whatever we wanted, whenever we wanted, and swim practically the whole day. Waking up at 6:15, we hurried to get ready so we would catch the ferry in time.  However, we were not able to find a cab for a reasonable price, and so had to walk for approximately 45 minutes.  Unfortunately, we missed the first ferry, but were able to catch the 8:00 one. Once… Read More

Snorkeling in Akumal

Recently we went to Akumal.  We waded into the ocean immediately. Of course we put our sun tan lotion on first, I must admit.  It’s very important though I must say, I don’t like waiting for the sun tan lotion to melt in before I can get in the water. Oh well. We saw many things there.  First of all we saw turtles!  Yes and they were amazing.  The way they weren’t scared and the way they look; it just amazes me.  I loved being with them because we were able to take… Read More

Mexican Plants

These are a few Mexican plants you might or might not know. ( I didn’t know them, so don’t feel too bad. I’m not this smart in real life ) A Mexican plant known as the Acanthocereus Cactus (get your breath back ), also known as Barbed-Wire cactus, has six species within it’s group.  This cactus is very much shaped like a vine, and it usually has thin stems, which can climb several meters in height. We have some of these in the area we live in, and they are pretty cool…. Read More

Beneficial Plants in Mexico

There are many plants in Mexico which have great benefits and many uses.  Whether they are shrubs, trees, herbs, or flowers, they all have characteristics we can benefit from.  Three ones that I find interesting are these: Chicalotes, Desert Willow Trees, and Marjoram herbs. Chicalote plants are very interesting.  While their stems are prickly and look dangerous, their flowers are pretty and their medical productivity is amazing!  They have bluish-green leaves, bright-blue lines, and jagged edges.  The flowers are normally white or yellow and have a paper-texture.  The fruits are long and… Read More

El Dorado Maroma

One of our favorite boutique-style resorts on the BEST beach in all of the Riviera Maya!  As always, photos first and then our review.  Back to Mexican Resorts. El Dorado Maroma is an incredible resort.  I have had the opportunity to do two site inspections at this resort as well as stay here with Ryan for four days.  For photos and commentary from our last stay, visit:  El Dorado Maroma 2011 El Dorado Maroma is a beachfront gourmet all-inclusive resort for guests age 16 and older.  For people looking for an intimate resort… Read More

Dreams Riviera Cancun

Dreams Riviera Cancun is an excellent family resort option.  It is set on a nice stretch of soft, sandy beach and offers pools, beach activities, fine dining, and so much more.  As usual, my photos are first, and my review will follow.  Enjoy.  Back to Mexican Resorts. Dreams Fact Sheet Dreams Riviera Cancun is ideally located between Cancun and Playa del Carmen, and is a short 20 minutes away from the airport. Size:  Dreams Riviera Cancun offers 486 suites located on five different floor levels in each building, along with a Spa,… Read More

Day 64: Why Not Rather Suffer Wrong?

The timing of this strange question could not have been more perfect.  Since we arrived in Playa almost two months ago, we have been cheated over and over again.  I know that seems a bit harsh, and I don’t mean it to be.  I love Playa del Carmen and I especially love its residents!  Hopefully you already know this through my other posts. Many of the taxi drivers (taxistas), however, have not garnered the same affection in our hearts.  To them, we are ‘turistas’, naive, ignorant, Gringos!  Apparently, we also have plenty… Read More
