Zermatt, Switzerland – Days 5 and 6

We said a reluctant good-bye to Paris and headed to Zermatt, Switzerland via train. It was a long but fantastic journey. Our arrival into Zermatt was stunning, as the closer you get, the more fabulous the scenery was. We were even fortunate to get clear views of the Matterhorn, which is definitely not a guarantee.

If you get a great view, make sure to capture it while you can. Moments later, it can be enshrined in clouds!

Zermatt is a car free town so on arrival, you either make your own way to your accommodations, or the hotel sends an electronic car to pick you up. Our hotel was located up above the town on a little cliff and had the coolest entrance for the “car” through tunnels and then an elevator up to the top.

The staff here are some of the friendliest we’ve ever met! We loved them. Even before our arrival, we were in contact with them several times, and they were always helpful and quick to respond. Here are a few shots from our home for the next 2 nights. First, the intimate lobby with a cozy fireplace. As soon as we arrived, we were welcomed warmly, and offered a comfortable seat by the fireplace while they checked us in.

And of course, a little welcome drink with delicious Macarons. I don’t think I could ever say no to Macarons! Pair that with a roaring fire and a good book; it doesn’t get much better.

There were several seating areas, strategically divided to give a sense of privacy. At times, I felt like we were lounging around in the comfort of our own home.

After we were checked in, a staff member escorted us to our gorgeous accommodations, and familiarized us with our room, going over every necessary detail. Though we were expecting a lovely room, we were somewhat stunned by the beauty and the breathtaking views!

The private outdoor space with our own cozy blankets!

And then there was the bathtub with unbelievable views. I took advantage of this tub every single day!

The hotel is pristine and modern. Even the elevators and the public areas are elegant, but in a very welcoming way.

The Wellness Center is one of the best features of this hotel! Indoors, there are saunas and floral or herbal steam rooms. The pool is both indoor and outdoor, which is amazing! And the outdoor whirlpool is spectacular all season long, with unbeatable views of the town and the Matterhorn! I’d like to say we used the equipment in the gym, but we were too busy relaxing. We could have stayed in the hotel the whole time and not been disappointed. So lovely.

The next morning started with a hearty breakfast in yet another gorgeous dining area with views all around. Yes…Eggs Benedict with American Bacon. Delicious and a great way to start your day in Zermatt if you plan to spend time hiking and exploring.

Breakfast was followed by a trek up the mountain via train to hopefully catch another glimpse of the famed Matterhorn. It had been snowing so we weren’t sure if this long anticipated adventure would actually materialize. Our sweet guide Ursula told us that people come from far away countries to catch a glimpse and sometimes leave disappointed so we knew that was a possibility.

We were fortunate yet again and thankfully captured the above shot before the clouds quickly moved back in.

I think it’s fair to say Zermatt and our time here at this hotel was one of the highlights of our whole trip! I dream of returning one day.
