Say the word “Williamsburg” and you may automatically think of historical treasures, museums, and “Colonial Williamsburg”.  It is all of this and much more.  That said, today I am only highlighting the college town of Williamsburg, given we just dropped off my oldest son there for his first year of college.

The beautiful College of William and Mary makes Williamsburg its home.  It was chartered on February 8, 1693, by King William III and Queen Mary II of England.  It is the second oldest institution of higher learning in the United States, second only to Harvard, and the first to become a University.

I especially love the way Colonial Williamsburg intersects with William and Mary.  I can’t imagine how neat it would be to study in this beautiful setting for four years!  Here are a few photos we captured during our time in Williamsburg.  Hopefully there will be more to follow in the next few years, as we plan to visit often.

This is Williamsburg at night.  Take note of the closed off street on the right, strewn with multiple wrought iron tables and chairs.  This was one of our favorite places to enjoy fudge from a local store, or our nightly gelato.

There are beautiful statues and cobblestone walkways everywhere.

We also loved the many dining choices the area had to offer.  Being foodies, you know how important that is to us.  Below are photos from two of our favorite discoveries – The Hound’s Tail and the Mellow Mushroom.  The service and the food at both restaurants were excellent!  We look forward to our return!
