Bruges Walking Food Tour – Day 2

Day 2: Bruges, Belgium Food Walking Tour. One of our favorite ways to visit a new city is to do a walking food tour. We had an excellent one this morning. It gave us a good sense of the area, along with some of the best restaurants, foods, and drinks to try. Our Guide, Jonathan was amazing. Friendly, knowledgeable, and patient. He introduced us to Bruges via its Frites, Stroopwafles, Belgian Chocolate, and waffles. Speaking of Frites, or “French Fries” as we call them in the States, apparently they are not “French”… Read More

Brussels, Belgium – Day 1

Day 1: Are you ready to join us on a new adventure? We arrived into Brussels, Belgium from Chicago early this morning on a nonstop red eye flight and were greeted by an old and dear college friend who now lives with his family in Brussels. He and his wife made the best tour guides as we explored Brussels together on foot, catching up on the many years that had passed! Brussels is beautiful, but the time there was so much more special, getting to spend it with our friends. First up…the… Read More

Zurich and The Storchen – Days 19

Como to Zurich – Since our plans in Italy shifted in order to reschedule our Lake Como Cruise, we arrived into Zurich rather late in the evening, with an early morning flight scheduled for the next day. As we drove from the train station to our hotel, however, we were quite surprised by how quaint and charming the streets of Zurich were! Zurich is gorgeous at night time. We are so thankful that we made the decision to stay an extra day in Zurich before flying home to Chicago. Zurich is a… Read More

Lake Como Venetian Boat – Day 18

We were supposed to take an all day cruise on Lake Como the morning after we arrived but the weather prevented that from happening. Thankfully we were able to extend our journey in Como by a day and reschedule with our Captain for the last day. We went to bed the night before, praying the sun would be shining! This is what we woke up to. Before heading out for the day, we had a very hearty breakfast at the Hotel Villa Flori. It was included in our rate and was actually… Read More

Lake Como and Bellagio – Day 17 Part 2

Bellagio really is a gem. So picturesque and quaint. Here is a photoblog dedicated to this jewel of Lake Como. Just look at all of those stunning flowers. They were everywhere. I’m tempted to say Bellagio is the prettiest of all the towns and villages in the Lake Como area. Truly, it is stunning, picture perfect. Tons of steep stairways make up a good part of the “streets” of Como with shops, cafés, and restaurants lining the way up and down. The higher you go, the more breathtaking the views. And so… Read More

Lake Como and Bellagio – Day 17

After breakfast, we set out on foot and explored the area as much as we could today, at our own pace. Our first stop was getting ferry tickets to Bellagio. Since the weather was much nicer, we wanted to revisit this town. Ferry tickets for the speed ferry sold out quickly while we were in line so we got tickets for two hours later and headed into Como first. We were planning to do this at some point anyway so we were glad for the opportunity. We love the streets of Como… Read More

Cernobbia and the Secret Garden

Day 16 Continued: One of our greatest discoveries while in the Lake Como area with stumbling upon the Secret Hidden Garden in Cernobbio. It is an oasis of tranquility and so hidden, you would never know it was there. Here are a few photos we captured to share but they can hardly touch the actual experience of being there. First, the gorgeous, vibrant flowers and small trickling stream in the background! I loved the benches along the way, inviting you to stop and stay a while! My favorite of all was the… Read More

Cernobbio – Day 16

It was a beautiful morning! This is the view that greeted us as we left our villa. We spent the day exploring in and around Lake Como at a very relaxed leisurely pace. Because it was so nice out, we actually took a very long walk from our hotel into Como’s Old Town, explored quite a bit, and enjoyed some amazing gelato at L’ULivo, which is very close to the Lakeside Promenade. While we could have stayed in Como and continued to meander through the streets, we instead hopped on a local… Read More

Milan – Day 15

While staying in Lake Como, we were determined to visit Milan, which we had both traveled through in the past, but never stopped long enough to explore. It is an easy 40 minute train ride from Como and well worth the time. While you could spend several days exploring Milan, it is still worth spending half a day there and getting to see a few of the highlights. I am sure we could’ve seen much more than we did, but we like to move at a slow leisurely pace and take it… Read More

Como Old Town – Day 14 Part 2

Shopping, Dining, and Cafés. Come along on this Photoblog with me as we explore the streets of Old Town Como. Let’s start with a cup of coffee. The below was one of our favorite places. Small, intimate, friendly service, and delicious drinks. We visited this café several times. Hunting in Como for kitchen goods would be extraordinarily fun. They have so many unique dishes and gadgets, not to mention how vibrant the colors are. And then there’s the clothing. Being so close to the fashion capital of Milan can’t help but elevate… Read More
